Hannah Cockroft MBE

British wheelchair racer; five-time Paralympic gold-medallist and record holder

Hannah experienced two cardiac arrests at birth, affecting her balance, mobility, fine motor skills, hips, legs and feet. Doctors predicted she would never walk, talk, live independently or past her teenage years. She proved them wrong, falling in love with sports including swimming, and wheelchair basketball and rugby at school, before settling on wheelchair racing and competing in the T34 category. She won GB's first track and field gold medal of the 2012 Paralympics – a Paralympic record – followed by a second gold. She won a further three golds in Rio 2016 for the 100m, 400m (a world record) and 800m.
