The 30% Club Cross-Company Mentoring Scheme 2017/2018
Dame Helena Morrissey founded this scheme in 2014 and it has grown year-on-year from eight participating companies, to 61 companies and 1,234 mentors andmetnees. Participating organisations include Deloitte, HSBC, BT, Cisco, Marks and Spencer’s, Aviva PwC and BNY Mellon. The fifth year’s intake, which commences on 12th October 2017, will be supporting more than 100 organisations from different sectors.
This scheme aims to develop the diversity and inclusion of organisations and the pipeline and parity of women at all levels of the carer pyramid. The ultimate aim is to attract, develop and retain women into Board roles.
This scheme is creating tangible positive change for mentees and mentors. Women Ahead manage this scheme for the 30% Club and our recent research is telling us that the scheme is creating benefits including career advancement, increased confidence, expanded networks and personal skills development (for both mentors and mentees).
You can watch this film here to learn more about the scheme and the impact it is creating.
How does the scheme work?
Mentees are women at all levels of the career pyramid.
Mentors are male and female leaders with 15 years' experience up to FTSE-100 Chairman level.
Participating organisations nominate equal numbers of mentors and mentees (up to 30 pairs) who are then matched to a leader from another organisation.
Mentors and mentees receive briefings, world-class mentoring materials and optional monthly events to accelerate their learning, networks and mentoring skills.
Each organisation has a “Programme Partner” who is the scheme’scontact point and is the on-the-ground contact for the mentors and mentees.
All briefings, materials, draft email communications for your mentors and mentees are provided by the Women Ahead team to make this as easy, and low-impact, on the Programme Partner’s time.
Mentors and mentees need to be nominated (and their profiles provided) by 1st September 2017.
A series of launch events in central London are on 12 October (we run multiple launches to ensure intimacy of events, and to accommodate large numbers!)
There is a Spring 2018 intake should you wish to spread your mentor and mentees over two intakes.
Women Ahead run the matching based on the profiles through information gathered from mentor/mentee profiles and specific inputs from Programme Partners.
Your organisation does not have to be a member of the 30% Club to participate.
Many HMT Women in Finance Charter signatories are using this scheme as a practical and proven deliverable to enable achievement of their gender aspirations.
Our team can work with you to help advise around how to nominate and invite mentors and mentees based on the programme experience.
Organisational conflicts of interest are noted and matches are made accordingly.
